TREKS IN NORTH SIKKIM AREA |
|
| |
The
mountains and valleys of Sikkim never fail to spring
surprises on the traveller in search of the picturesque.
March to May is the best time to visit Sikkim,
tourists prefers to come when the golden paddy fields gently
sway under the October-November sun.
Apart from the Dzongri trek in extreme Western Sikkim,
trekking inSikkim, particularly to northern frontiers is
still in its nascent stage owing to permit formalities or
its proximity to the borders. But the hassles are there no
more. |
|
| |
The trekking in north Sikkim holds lots
of restrictions due to the rich concentration of Herbs and
medicinal valued plants. Most of the Northern Sikkim
portions fall under RAP or PAP and National parks. But
this particular trek route is one of the most tempting. |

Green Lake |
|
| |
The trek to Green Lakes, the base camp of
Mount Khangchendzonga on the Zemu glacier is one of the most
beautiful trekking trails in Sikkim. Green Lakes doesnt
mean there is a lake, but one will see unbelievable stretch
of green frozen glacier, which is known by the name Zemu
Glacier. The view of Mt. Sinolchu there is no other
mountain that can equal Sinolchu in beauty and boldness. As
mentioned by Doglas Freshfield, who had seen many mountains
on earth, |

Tingvoong |
|
| |
A trek up to Tholung via halts at
Tingvoong homestay at Thingvoong is one of the best trekking
areas following the northern fringes. The trek demands good
fitness and medically sound body so as to meet the
challenges like steep trek through thick forest as well as
resistance to sleep in makeshift jungle houses, caves,
cowsheds etc.
When the night falls, local Lepchas, Bhutias and Nepalese
gather at the homestay and entertain the guests with
traditional folk songs and dances. Tingvoong is one of the
happening villages in Dzongu, the Lepcha reserve.
